Cookies

Our council sells Little Brownie Baker cookies and our pre-order starts on Sept 11th. The new cookie this year, Thank u Berry Much has Cranberries and crispy rice to make it crunchy. Our cookies are $3.50 a box. Some of the boxes are so small, $3.50 is a hard sell!

Last year my daughter sold just over 600 boxes. Just delivering them was a feat!

Cookie time is NOT my favorite time of year. The Tagalongs almost, not quite though, make it worthwhile.

August

I'm going to blog about our scout year this year.

Some info about me - I have been a scout leader for 13 years. My older daughter has her Silver & Gold, bridged into Adult scouts and is currently a Sophomore in college. I lead her troop for 13 years - Brownie-Senior plus 1 extra year after she graduated. About 4 years ago, I started over again with my younger daughter. She is a 4th grader this year, a Junior.

My troop is with Girl Scouts of Central Maryland. Our council has the advantage of not being one of the re-aligned councils. So far very little has changed at either council or community level during the realignments.

I am a trainer as well as a leader. I used to be a member of the Service Team in our community but for the last 4 years my husband (yes a MAN!) has been the SU manager. When he became the SU manager, I really left the Service Unit team - although I do help him. I really didn't want to get roped into being the Co-SUM as I had 3 troops at the time! There is only so much time!

In August, I sent out a Welcome Back letter to get the ball rolling. Here is is:

Dear Troop 121 Parents:

I hope you had a great summer! The school year will be starting soon and our Girl Scout troop meetings will begin again as well. It should be an exciting year!

Our first meeting will be on Tuesday, September 8, 2008 at 6:45 pm in the cafeteria at Cranberry Station Elementary.

We'll discuss the upcoming year and the start of cookie sales. The Juniors will get their cookie forms and learn all about this year's sale at this meeting as well.

Troop dues and finances will be discussed at this meeting. If you are able, come prepared to pay troop dues at this first meeting. If this is financially difficult for your family, please see a leader. We can make other arrangements. For example, our council has a generous grants program to which we can apply. Traditionally we use our dues money to fund the troop until we receive our money from cookie sales.

We already have some events for your calendar already!

Cookie sales begin - Sept. 11th
Fall encampment - Oc. 10-11th

This parents’ meeting is your chance to ask questions, discuss concerns or make suggestions. We look forward to seeing you and working with your scout all year.

Youtube & more

Ok I love YouTube but take a look at this:

I love this - The Helinski Complaints Choir.

Glumbert.com is another video site on the web with a slightly more unorthodox view that YouTube.

Mmm...delicioso!

As Dora would say....

This is helpful - the staff would find it very useful to bookmark useful sites.

I think it would be cool to use for scouting links. A service unit could create one for an online help tool for leaders.
